Living life both in the water and on two wheels.

Our Mission

We are proud members of a curiosity adventurous tribe of explorers. Lifelong friends, fellow athletes, and San Clemente Locals.  Ryan Baker and Keagan Banks set to ride their bikes from Portugal to Ireland on September 3rd, driven by curiosity and that unknown factor of what can happen.  We are both fresh out of college, with no desire to jump straight into the depths of the "real-world."  As we encroached closer to graduating, we felt this craving for a type of understanding of this world that only comes with true experience.  Following our urge to satisfy this wanderlust, we started "Salty Spokes," a combination of our passions for exploring, surfing, biking, and documenting the unknown.

It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.
— Ernest Hemingway

The Ride

September 3rd, 2014 marks the start of a 5,000 KM, seven-country journey, the inaugural "Salty Spokes" adventure. The next 70 days we will be wandering along the coast of Portugal to the northern bluffs of Ireland without a set course or knowing what lies ahead. We are ignited by the simple pleasure of having everything we own on the back of our bike, open to finding magic in adventure. We are ready to eat local food and enjoy the generous hospitality of those we don't know. We acknowledge the sudden plot twists that comes with living a life on two wheels. In fact, we want to- get lost, run out of money, bike in the rain uphill, charge through steep cold-water waves, drink homemade wine, and ask for directions in languages we don't speak. We are ready to appreciate even the most trying moments, knowing that they will make great stories someday.
